Challenge

Bisat reservoir has proven to be larger than initially expected. The oil export system currently consists of 8”, 32 km – Bisat to GPP pipeline and 8”, 85 km – GPP to MOL pipeline.

A concept selection study was conducted to evaluate the expansion of Block-60 Oil Export Pipeline system, identify the bottlenecks, operability and maintainability of the complete system and recommend a suitable pipeline with a maximum production of 75000 SBPD.

After the study it was recommended to install a 16” pipeline from Bisat to Yibal to enhance the oil export capacity.

The total pipeline scope of work included a 16” OD pipe with 7,180 joints which were protected with Canusa-CPS’s – GTS-PP – heat shrink sleeve solution.

Known for our product performance, ease-of-installation and project excellence, Canusa-CPS was selected on a short notice to propose an effective product for use on this project.

Solution

Canusa-CPS responded to the client call and recommended applying its Global Transmission Sleeve – GTS-PP with the assistance of Induction Heating Equipment on the field joints. Given the fast-track nature of the project, Canusa-CPS was able to mobilize materials and equipment on an extremely short notice from its regional distribution center located in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

In addition to material supply, whilst considering the ongoing constraints due to the global pandemic, a first of its kind online training on the installation of GTS-PP for the Galfar Engineering & Contracting SAOG coating team was provided by the Canusa-CPS Field Service team. Laboratory testing of the product was also performed by Canusa-CPS vide an approved laboratory within the territory of Oman.

The GTS-PP material offered a quick and efficient application methodology enabling the contractor to quickly install the product on the field joints. Furthermore, the product has a robust and impressive track record of use within the GCC territory which instilled a firm sense of confidence with the end user/contractor both like.

The contractor – Galfar Engineering & Contracting SAOG –  is known as one of the largest engineering, contracting and construction companies in the Sultanate of Oman. Its headquarters are situated in Ghala, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman.

Canusa-CPS has had the pleasure of working with Galfar Engineering & Contracting SAOG and look forward to extending its partnership in the years to follow.
